91 for 09

Psalm 91 was written thousands of years ago…but is just as fresh and real today in 2009 as it ever was.

It begins with “Those who live in the shelter of the Most High will find rest in the shadow of the Almighty.”

Verse one contains the conditions for the promises contained in the following 15 verses.

Living in the shelter of the Most High.

Choosing to put yourself in the Lord’s complete care. You must give yourself to Him. (and not just half-way…)

It would be like jumping off a diving board…at the point that you jump there is no turning back. You are totally committed to going into the water. You will go into the water.

We must get into the “Shelter of the Most High”. He cannot protect us if we are out side of His shelter and choosing to do our own thing.

Live in the shelter today.

A Challenge – get in shape…spiritually

2Tim 3:16-17 Every part of Scripture is God-breathed and useful one way or another – showing us truth, exposing our rebellion, correcting our mistakes, training us to live God’s way. Through the Word we are put together and shaped up for the tasks God has for us.

The Word of God challenges us to be all that God has made us to be. It is the standard…and when we look into it, we measure ourselves. (we should)

The Word of God challenges us to stretch and grow. If you are not stretching and growing then chances are you are not putting yourself before the Word of God.

It is good to be challenged. and even necessary.

We have to take the word and apply it to our lives in order to get shaped up for the tasks that God has for us…each day.

Let’s take the challenge, get in spiritual shape and do more this year than we have ever done in our lives. How about it?

Be Filled

Are you filled?…with the Holy Spirit?

Ephesians 5:18 – ever be filled and stimulated with the [Holy] Spirit. [AMP]

Every Christian has the ability to be filled totally and completely with the Holy Spirit. If God provided this power and strength, as Jesus put it in Acts 1:8, then why would anyone not want to be filled?…

In these days that we are living in we need to get filled and stay filled, for sure!

Being filled with the Spirit of God will make the difference in our lives. We need His power and ability to face all the challenges of 2009.

The third person of the Trinity, the Holy Spirit, desires to make Himself known in your life. He desires you to yield so that you can be filled.

They bring life

Proverbs 4:20-22

My child, pay attention to what I say. Listen carefully to my words. Don’t lose sight of them. Let them penetrate deep into your heart, for they bring life to those who find them, and healing to their whole body.

The words of life come from the Word of God.

Jesus’ disciple Peter even said, “You have the words of eternal life.”

Living life, real life, involves paying attention to the words of God, listening carefully and not losing sight of them.

Meditating the Word of God until it becomes a part of you and brings the life of God to you. The life that he brings has a direct effect on your life. Without it we will live way below the level that God desires for us.

With His life and His Word we have healing, hope and help – 24/7/365.

Get in it and let it get in you!

Revisit and Renew

Proverbs 4:5 – …Don’t forget my words

Romans 12:2 – be transformed by the renewing of your mind.

We need to remind ourselves of God’s Word. It must become more valuable than anything else in the world to us.

Reading it and meditating on it is good, but doing it again and again is necessary. You can’t possibly get everything that you need out of it the first time around.

Practice this in 2009:

  1. Get on a Daily Bible Reading Plan
  2. Write out one scripture a day on a index card and carry it around with you for the purpose of memorization
  3. Before going to sleep every night get that verse in your mind and repeat it over and over until you fall asleep

You have to revisit in order to renew.

Make the Word of God first place in your life and everything else will fall into it’s appropriate place.
