There is a difference between a “believer” and a “disciple”. ”So Jesus said to those Jews who had believed in Him, If you abide in My word [hold fast to My teachings and live in accordance with them], you are truly My disciples.” -John 8:31 AMP
Jesus made a distinction when he said to those that were “believers” that the difference between believers and disciples is: living in accordance with His teachings. James puts it like, “Be a doer of the Word and not just a hearer only.” It’s good to hear but hearing doesn’t do you any good until you do what you hear. It is easy to be a believer and it requires “discipline” to be a disciple! Millions of people today are believers.
What we need more of are disciples of Jesus! Hearing His words and taking the bold step to do exactly what He said to do will qualify you to be a disciple. The book of James goes on to say that it is the doer of the Word that is blessed. So we can draw the conclusion that the blessing is in the doing, not just being able to quote the Word. (Even the devil can quote the Word of God.)
Let’s take a step up and be a disciple of Jesus! We can do it.
