Mashed Peas In a Jar

Posted by Pastor Bruce on October 7, 2009

Gerber is good when you are one year old. But come on…”I have fed you with milk, and not with meat: for hitherto ye were not able to bear it, neither yet now are ye able.” – 1 Corinthians 3:2 KJV

Ask a teenager if they would like to trade their hamburger for a jar of Gerber peas. Their response, “No way! What are you thinking?” What an insult to someone that has grown out of the baby food days. Paul’s words to the Church at Corinth were stout to say the very least. In our modern day speech he was saying, “OK guys, I have preached the very simple things and nothing deep yet because you are not able to take it. And by the way you are still not able to hear what I want to say. You need to grow up and quit acting like babies.”

Paul was insistent that Christians grow up. Most Pastors are fine with people showing up once and a while and remaining babies (as long as they tithe and give in the building fund!) Church attendance (twice a month), tithing and giving are not the same as growing up spiritually. Of course growing spiritually is reflected in your church attendance, tithing and giving. But we have people who have been going to church and not growing in God! Time to leave the mashed peas in a jar for a juicy steak, huh? Get ready to eat!
