Obedience Optional?

At what time in history was obedience ever made optional?

“If you love me, you will obey my commandments” – John 14:15

Obedience is a manifestation of love. You can not truly say that you love God and habitually disobey His word. It just does not work.

Today’s society completely accepts that children have the right to tell their parents what to do and what they are going to do and not going to do. The world around us has protected the right to disobey authority and be OK with it. It is in one word REBELLION.

There is no where in the Bible that gives us the right to disobey God. We do not have the choice to obey or disobey God…IF we love Him. The question then becomes, “Do you love God?”. If so, we will see it in your complete and immediate obedience to His word.

Because He loves us He would never require us to do anything that would hurt us or anyone else. The Word says that His commandments are not grievous or burdensome. Jesus even went so far to say that His yoke is easy and His burden is light. He is not a hard taskmaster. Everything that He asks us to do is for our benefit…to help and bless us…and ultimately make us a bigger blessing.

How much would you say today that you love God?

El Shaddai not El Cheapo

God is more than enough.

Thou preparest a table before me in the presence of mine enemies: thou anointest my head with oil; my cup runneth over. – Psalms 23:5 KJV

And my God will liberally supply (fill to the full) your every need according to His riches in glory in Christ Jesus. – Philippians 4:19 AMP

The supply of God is always greater than the need! He just wants us to recognize Him as our sole source!

We are not looking for a handout from Him but rather seeking His face with all of our heart. His desire for us is that we prosper and be in health as our soul prospers! 3John2

He wants our houses to be filled with wealth and riches. Psalm 112:3 God has designed us to be filled to the full and running over so that we have so much that we have to give some away! (and be like Him in the area of giving)

God does not just want us to barely get by and make it by the skin of our teeth but be adequately supplied so that the world gets the accurate picture of just how big God is! Bigger than big and greater than great! He is our Father and takes good care of us when we stretch out our faith and declare that our God is MORE THAN ENOUGH!

Believer or Disciple?

There is a difference between a “believer” and a “disciple”. ”So Jesus said to those Jews who had believed in Him, If you abide in My word [hold fast to My teachings and live in accordance with them], you are truly My disciples.” -John 8:31 AMP

Jesus made a distinction when he said to those that were “believers” that the difference between believers and disciples is: living in accordance with His teachings. James puts it like, “Be a doer of the Word and not just a hearer only.” It’s good to hear but hearing doesn’t do you any good until you do what you hear. It is easy to be a believer and it requires “discipline” to be a disciple! Millions of people today are believers.

What we need more of are disciples of Jesus! Hearing His words and taking the bold step to do exactly what He said to do will qualify you to be a disciple. The book of James goes on to say that it is the doer of the Word that is blessed. So we can draw the conclusion that the blessing is in the doing, not just being able to quote the Word. (Even the devil can quote the Word of God.)

Let’s take a step up and be a disciple of Jesus! We can do it.

You Choose

“Today I am giving you a choice. You can choose life and success or death and disaster.” – Deuteronomy 30:15 CEV

God has given us the choice for life or death. He is very straightforward and clear. You would have to find someone and pay them to help you misunderstand God. He just lays it all out there before us. What you see is what you get! He goes on the say…

[If you obey the commandments of the Lord your God which] I command you today, to love the Lord your God, to walk in His ways, and to keep His commandments and His statutes and His ordinances, then you shall live and multiply, and the Lord your God will bless you in the land into which you go to possess. – Deuteronomy 30:16 AMP

We have a say so in our life. A responsibility to choose to do what God wants us to do or do what we want to do. I choose life.

Here’s a hint: choose life too, that you may succeed and be blessed by God! Go for it!
