The Fruit of Your Lips

Your words reveal your heart. A thankful and grateful person will have a continual flow of positive words coming out of their mouth.

Hebrews 13:15 AMP

Through Him, therefore, let us constantly and at all times offer up to God a sacrifice of praise, which is the fruit of lips that thankfully acknowledge and confess and glorify His name.

Have you listened to yourself lately? What are you saying?

Are the words that you are using glorifying God and ministering grace to all those that hear you? Or do people run from you because of the negative flow coming from your heart and out of your mouth?

We are to imitate God as dear children imitate their father. God has designed each one of us to be carriers of thanksgiving and gratefulness. We should always have something to thank God about and have control over the thoughts that we allow in our minds.

Because we are recreated spiritually through our confession that Jesus is Lord we should be the most positive people that we know. God has given us the power of His Word to change our attitude from negative to positive and affect the very words that we speak.

As we submit ourselves to Him on a daily basis as we are instructed in Romans 12:1-2 we can expect that we will be changed from the way that the world thinks, speaks and acts to the way that God wants us to think, speak and act. It’s time to check out the fruit of our lips.

Storm Proof Life

Storms come but they do not have to destroy you.

“Therefore whoever hears these sayings of Mine, and does them, I will liken him to a wise man who built his house on the rock: and the rain descended, the floods came, and the winds blew and beat on that house; and it did not fall, for it was founded on the rock. – Matthew 7:24-25 NKJV

You can determine today to never ever be destroyed by a storm again. The Lord has given us a way to live a storm proof life. He has given us the responsibility to protect our lives from destruction. Many times we pray for Him to protect us from calamity but we need to understand that walking in His Word is so powerful. By conducting our lives according to His Word and becoming a “doer” of the Word of God we will stand strong against any and every storm…and continue standing after the storm passes!

Declare yourself as a DOER of the Word today (and everyday from now on!). Commit to do everything that you see in His Word, immediately. He has given us a rock to build our houses upon.

No matter how many storms you have been through and how many times your house has fallen from storm damage, you can begin today to build a fortress on the ROCK by doing the sayings of Jesus. Make His Word first place in your life and others will see your “storm proof life” and begin to ask “how can I do what you have done?”

It’s all about doing the sayings of Jesus!

Approved By God

Study must become a habit.

“Study to shew thyself approved unto God, a workman that needeth not to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth.” – 2 Tim 2:15 (KJV)

Growing up spiritually does not happen naturally, it requires a great deal of time and attention. The responsibility of knowing Him and growing up in Him is ours. We have been given His Word and He took great effort to get it to us. If we completely comprehend how much value there is in the Word of God each of us would become totally devoted to the study of God’s Word. (This responsibility is not just for people who are in the ministry)

“These were more fair-minded than those in Thessalonica, in that they received the word with all readiness, and searched the Scriptures daily to find out whether these things were so. Therefore many of them believed…” – Acts 17:11-12

Giving yourself to the Word of God produces a faith in God that is necessary to accomplish the will of God. Daily is key. Feeding from the Word daily, searching and pouring over the Word brings you face to face with the Author, the Holy Spirit. He is the One that takes us by the hand and leads us into a deeper understanding of the truth. He opens our eyes to show us things that we have never seen before.

We become approved by God by studying the Word enough that we handle the Word with confidence and boldness. Get deeper in the Word and watch it transform your life.

Garbage In, Garbage Out

Examine your words…it is the best self examination that we can perform.

Either make the tree good, and his fruit good; or else make the tree corrupt, and his fruit corrupt: for the tree is known by his fruit. O generation of vipers, how can ye, being evil, speak good things? for out of the abundance of the heart the mouth speaketh. A good man out of the good treasure of the heart bringeth forth good things: and an evil man out of the evil treasure bringeth forth evil things. – Matt 12:33-35

The old saying that “you are what you eat” is true in the natural sense but also in the soul and spiritual sense. The things that you are consuming all day long with your eyes and ears are forming what you believe in your heart and will eventually come out of your mouth.

If you want to locate where someone is spiritually just listen to them speak for about 5 minutes. Your words tell where your heart is. Take a whole day and do half the amount of talking and just listen to the words that you use. Are they filled with faith or with doubt? Are they filled with fear and criticism and love and kindness?

If you find that you are not speaking what you should be speaking then change what you are feeding on. Turn off the negative news and put more of the Word of God in you. Dwell in His Word and let His Words dwell in you…then you will begin to hear great things proceed from your heart and mouth! Words that will bless and heal…words that will attract people to Jesus and not to yourself. Good in, good out…

Locating the Heart by the Mouth

When you speak you give yourself away.

…How can you speak good things when you are evil (wicked)? For out of the fullness (the overflow, the superabundance) of the heart the mouth speaks. The good man from his inner good treasure flings forth good things, and the evil man out of his inner evil storehouse flings forth evil things. But I tell you, on the day of judgment men will have to give account for every idle (inoperative, nonworking) word they speak. – Matthew 12:34-36 AMP

These were Jesus words to the religious leaders of the day. This was in response to their accusation that He was casting out demons because He had a demon. Their words gave voice to what was in their heart.

All you must do in order to locate people is let them talk for about 5 minutes. If their words are filled with hate, fear, doubt, criticism and pride then it is evident what is in their heart.

(But to hear what someone has to say you must let them talk. This “exercise” also helps us develop the all important skill of listening.) The more that you begin to listen to people the more aware you are of the words that you are speaking, then naturally you begin to judge your heart and words to make sure that they line up to God’s Word.

Your heart and mouth are connected. It is useless to use the excuse, “Yeah, I said that but I really didn’t mean it…” Change what is in our heart and the words that are coming out of our mouths will change.
