The Right Side

Have you been casting your net on the wrong side of the boat?

So Jesus said to them, Boys (children), you do not have any meat (fish), do you? [Have you caught anything to eat along with your bread?] They answered Him, No! And He said to them, Cast the net on the right side of the boat and you will find [some]. So they cast the net, and now they were not able to haul it in for such a big catch (mass, quantity) of fish [was in it]. – John 21:5-6 AMP

Good news,…there is a right side to your boat and Jesus knows which side is the RIGHT side! Our job is to be attentive to His voice and find out which side is the right side. To do this we have to slow down long enough to listen to the voice of Jesus.

God will never force His will upon us, we must be willing to “stop, drop and pray” all the time. We walk in our limited knowledge while He knows all things (including the side of the boat where there are many fish just waiting to be caught). Spending time with Him to find out the right side will not cost you time but save you time in the long run. It can also cause you to bear much fruit (and quickly!). So don’t be discouraged by the lack of fish in your boat and the fact that you have been fishing all night with no catch…listen to the Lord and He will tell you which side of the boat is the right side! Get your nets ready though because it will be a BIG CATCH!

Rejoice

Joy to the world, the Lord has come!

“…Do not sorrow, for the joy of the LORD is your strength.” – Nehemiah 8:10

Joy is a powerful thing. It is a spiritual force.

The angels said to the shepherds that they the news that they brought was  GOOD NEWS of GREAT JOY! The birth of Jesus brought JOY and GOOD NEWS! This tells me that we were created to be full of joy. When we get just a glimpse of Jesus and who He is – JOY comes!

We need the joy of the Lord because it strengthens us, and boy do we need His strength in these days. Joy comes from God and is part of the fruit of the spirit. It does not depend on outward circumstances because it comes from God and God is above all circumstances.

We must re-joice each day (have a new dose of joy). Getting deeper into the GOOD NEWS of Jesus brings the joy that we need and keeps us strong so that we can do His will. Dig in and go deeper in the things of God – rejoice! for unto us a Savior is born and He lives in reigns on the throne today!

Be filled with JOY!

Fruitful and Multiply

Our original purpose is still our original purpose.

Then God blessed them, and God said to them, “Be fruitful and multiply;… – Genesis 1:28

The meaning of being fruitful and multiplying is not just limited to the idea of procreation or “having children”, God has called us and equipped us to bear spiritual fruit in our lives.

John 15:8 – By this My Father is glorified, that you bear much fruit; so you will be My disciples.

John 15:16 – You did not choose Me, but I chose you and appointed you that you should go and bear fruit, and that your fruit should remain, that whatever you ask the Father in My name He may give you.

When we are bearing fruit we are most satisfied, we are doing what we are created to do. This command from the beginning is still ringing out today, do you hear it?

The only way that we can bear any fruit is to stay connected to the Vine! Jesus! The life of God is the very thing that flows through us in order to bear fruit. This life that Jesus came to provide is developed in our lives through our daily fellowship with Him. We must give ourselves to the Word and prayer in order to receive from Him, for the purpose of  bearing fruit.

Let’s get connected and stay connected to the Vine, so that we can bear fruit, be fruitful and multiply.

Saying The Wrong Thing

Open mouth, insert foot. “For we all often stumble and fall and offend in many things. And if anyone does not offend in speech [never says the wrong things], he is a fully developed character and a perfect man, able to control his whole body and to curb his entire nature.” – James 3:2 AMP

Being able to say the right thing at the right time comes with maturity. As we grow we learn what not to say. Words can hurt or heal, offend or edify. This scripture in James says that a “perfect” man (or complete, mature man) does not offend in speech. Perfect does not mean that we are without flaw but rather that we are grown up and mature. The Amplified version even uses the phrase “fully developed character” to describe the complete and mature man. This is our goal and frankly what the Lord expects us to be.

To say the wrong thing and offend with our words shows immaturity. The words that we speak reveal how developed (or undeveloped) that we are. As we grow up in the Lord we can control our words, control our whole body and curb (restrict) our entire nature. Self control is one of the tell tale signs that we are mature and maturing.

“Help me to guard my words whenever I say something.” – Psalms 141:3 CEV

Let It Flow

“Whoever drinks of the water that I shall give him will never thirst. But the water that I shall give him will become in him a fountain of water springing up into everlasting life.” John 4:14 NKJV

Love.  Joy.  Peace.  Patience.  Gentleness.  Goodness.  Faith.  Meekness.  Temperance.  They are the character traits of God, and when the Holy Spirit comes to dwell in us, He brought these traits with Him.  They are powerful forces and God wants them to become our character traits as well.

They are designed to bubble up on the inside and gush forth, like a stream, constantly protecting and cleansing us from the inside out.

You cannot put any rubbish in the mouth of a flowing fountain.  As it’s shooting the water up, the force of its own outflow protects is from any impurities or blockage from the outside.

We keep the Spirit flowing by pumping our hearts full of the Word of God, then, the forces of eternal life begin to bubble out.  Let’s choose to keep these forces of life continually streaming out of our heart, and refuse any rubbish to stop the flow of the Spirit in our life.  (by Sheila Rhodes)
