Focus On Yourself

Mind your own business.

Make it your goal to live a quiet life, minding your own business and working with your hands, just as we instructed you before. Then people who are not Christians will respect the way you live, and you will not need to depend on others. – 1 Thess. 4:11-12 NLT

Know anyone that is “up in everyone’s business”? Always looking at others instead of themselves? Knowing the latest gossip about everyone around them.

The Word is very plain that we really have no time on our hands to examine the lives of others. We should “invest” what precious time that we have to conforming our life to the life of Christ and growing up into Him in all things and all areas.

If we would spend the time that we talk about others to others with studying the Word of God how much more spiritually mature would we become? There is so much to do and yet so little time to do it that we need to focus on ourselves and give our attention to the Word of God (Joshua 1:8) day and night meditating the Word in order to do it…

God will not hold us accountable for what other people do, but He will certainly hold us accountable for how we spend our own time. Are we spending our days, hours and minutes wrapped up in others lives, or are we seeking the Lord with all of our heart and doing what He is telling us to do constantly?

Determine that your life counts and that it is the most important thing that you should be focusing on today. Stop looking at the lives of others and talking about others…mind your own business, do what God has called you to do quickly and quietly.

Spiritual Reaping

Where are you doing the most planting?

For he who sows to his flesh will of the flesh reap corruption, but he who sows to the Spirit will of the Spirit reap everlasting life. – Galatians 6:8 NKJV

This verse contains the law of sowing and reaping. It also makes the distinction between what really matters and what doesn’t.

If we really want to grow spiritually and experience all that God has for us we must exercise spiritually, which means more prayer and study of the Word of God. Have you had your quiet time with the Lord today? There is no substitute for time spent with the Lord. You can not grow closer to someone that you do not spend time with.

Isn’t amazing how many people are wanting to reap where they have not planted? Human nature is to take the easy way out and the path of least resistance. Our culture and society wants something for nothing. This does not work. (and never will) We reap what we sow. Sow to the spirit and begin to reap from the spirit, the more abundant life that Jesus came to provide. But remember it doesn’t come easy and doesn’t come overnight. But it does come, if you sow.

No Lie

The church has been influenced by the world in the area of integrity and honesty.

So then, get rid of lies. Speak the truth to each other, because we are all members of the same body. – Ephesians 4:25 GW

The society in which we live says that it is alright to tell a “white lie” in order to protect yourself when needed. God’s word does not make provision for any type of lie. (white, gray, striped or polka dotted!)

During the current series “GROW” we are learning that one of the key marks of a mature Christian is that they “speak the truth”. Growing up will include the ability to control our tongue (like the book of James teaches) and speaking the truth ALL the time.

The truth sets you free but a lie binds, steals, kills and destroys. Remember that the devil is a liar and the father of all lies. There is nothing more satanic and diabolic than a lie. Lying will render the blessing of God ineffective in your life and will affect your growth in a negative way.

We must decide to put away lying and speak the truth in love in order to grow up spiritually. Here are some scriptures to study on truthfulness.

1 Peter 2:21-22, Ephesians 4:25, Proverbs 6:16-19, John 8:32, Psalms 119:29, 163

God is looking for a people who are true to their word and speak only the truth in love. Are you one of those?

Act Your Age

How old are you anyway? “Therefore we do not lose heart. Even though our outward man is perishing, yet the inward man is being renewed day by day.” – 2 Corinthians 4:16 NKJV

You are a spirit, you have a soul and you live in a body. It is possible to grow old and not grow up! Both naturally speaking and spiritually speaking. The older that we grow the more mature we should be and should act! Our spiritual growth and progress will be displayed in our actions. There was probably a time in your life where your mother or father said, “Act your age.” In other words, grow up.

Our inward man, our spirit has the opportunity to be renewed and make progress everyday. If we feed on the Word of God and put it in practice daily we are becoming more and more  like our elder brother Jesus! This is God’s plan. (and our responsibility)

We have the major part to play in our spiritual development. We can grow up and act our age. Let’s get after it!

U R what U eat

Your diet? “For whatever a man sows, that and that only is what he will reap.” – Galatians 6:7 AMP

No doubt you become what you eat. Junk in, junk out. The junk food that people have been putting in their bodies has affected their physical health. And the lack of the sincere milk of the Word of God and the meat of the Word has affected our growth spiritually. You cannot grow properly on the wrong diet.

We give more attention to “the tube” than the Word and then face a crisis and wonder why we are filled with fear instead of faith. Duh! Proverbs 4:20 says “My son, attend to my words; consent and submit to my sayings. Let them not depart from your sight; keep them in the center of your heart. For they are life to those who find them, healing and health to all their flesh.” – Proverbs 4:20-22 AMP

What do we want? Life, peace and faith? or death, fear and dismay? We control our spiritual health by what we feed on…what we put in our spirit.

If you are dealing with fear, double up on the milk and meat of the Word of God! Take the Bread of Life! Eat freely!
